WAIANAE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The state has fined a property owner for improperly storing tons of trash and hazardous waste on a large parcel of land in Waianae.

The Maxima Bautista Trust has been fined $9,000 and has been cited for solid waste violations on a property on Hakimo Road in Waianae.

The state Health Department said there are about 50 junk cars on the property, 20 cubic yards of scrap metal, 10 scrap engines, 200 old tires, and dozens of 55-gallon drums labeled "oily water" and "hazardous waste."

The trust can contest the fine.
