HONOLULU, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) - A postal inspector was hospitalized Tuesday after opening a suspicious package at the Postal Inspection Agency office near the Honolulu International Airport.
HFD officials say the substance in the package is unknown, but the 36-year-old man man felt ill after opening it.
"The inspector opened the package and felt sick. He had heart palpitations and lightheadedness," HFD Battalion Chief Paul Fukuda said. "The package is unidentified because once it’s sealed we don’t want to open up the package again to risk further exposure."
The area has been cleared by HFD. The package will remain at the postal inspection agency and is under the jurisdiction of the Postal Inspection Agency. It will be sent out to other federal agencies for testing.
