HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The tax deadline is just hours away and if you are like the many that still have not filed don’t panic just yet. But some need to know by not filing, you can miss out on future credits and deductions.  Apparently the government found that a lot of the late claims last year were fraudulent.  So what happens if you do not file your taxes?

People really understand first, if you live here in Hawaii and don’t have social security number you must get an ITIN. If you are working here, you would need to file taxes and you would need that ITIN - and you only have until tomorrow, April 19th, to do that.

But you do have options.  You can still file an extension or you can miss out on some pretty important credits and deductions.

There is the Earned Income Tax Credit. It’s one that you may qualify for one year and may not the next. Also, not everyone has to file a return, some don’t make enough to have to file, but the earned income tax credit is one that is refundable making it worth while to look into and see if you can get some money back.
