The most striking change from five years earlier is a population explosion in India, especially in the northern states. This accords with Oxford Economics, which says of the 20 fastest-growing cities, 14 are in India. Another places where population is exploding is Egypt.
There are many ways to measure cities, urban and metro areas. But 55 million people live in the Pearl River Delta, including Hong Kong and Guangzhou. There are 46 million in and around Delhi. There are 40 million in and around Tokyo. Other major population centers, all over 20 million, are Shanghai, Jakarta, Seoul, Manila, Mexico City, New York and Sao Paolo, Brazil.
