A 29-year-old man died and a 34-year-old was critically injured early Friday after the vehicle they were in rolled over into a ditch off Waianae Valley Road, Emergency Medical Services said.
When Honolulu firefighters arrived on scene around 3:40 a.m., they found two occupants pinned in the two-door sedan. Both were extricated by HFD, but one was determined to be dead and a second was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, according to the Honolulu Fire Department.
HFD said the car rolled off a bridge into a drainage ditch.
It’s not clear how it happened, but officials believe speed may have been a factor.
Police closed both directions of Waianae Valley Road, between Pulapula Way and Momona Road, but the road has since been reopened.
