Hawaiian musician Christy Leina’ala Lassiter debuts new CD

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Christy Leina'ala Lassiter has been playing live Hawaiian music at the Hilo International Airport since 2008. She was an entertainer for the Destination Hilo program "Hilo Hula Days", plays music during Merrie Monarch Week in Hilo, has been greeting cruise ships at the Port of Hilo for 5 years and is working with Malu Productions as a Guest Entertainer on the Pride of America.  In April 2016, Christy was featured at the Gabby Pahinui Kani Ka Pila, held in Waimanalo. She went on to headline at a Hui Kako'o concert in Keauhou, Kona and was also featured on Pakele Live with Ocean Kaowili, Jeff Au Hoy and Jj Ahuna.

Her latest album "Le'ale'a" is nominated for 2017 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards for Album of the Year, Female Vocalist, Most Promising Artist, Hawaiian Music Album and Favorite Entertainer.  There are several well known Big Island musicians on this album, including producer JJ Ahuna,, Dwight Tokumoto, Victor Chock, Ikaika Marzo, Lono Kanakaole, and Rob Yamanoha.

This album has several songs that were recorded for hula dancers, therefore, no pa'ani. These songs include "Kealoha" by Lei Collins and Maddy Lam as well as Auntie Irmgard Farden Aluli's "Puamana". The two other hula favorites are Mahina O Hoku and Papalina Lahilahi.
