MOILIILI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

About 26 dogs rescued from a no-kill animal shelter in Makaha were adopted to loving homes Saturday.

The dogs adopted were rescued from appalling conditions at the "Friends of Life" shelter in October 2016. Many of the dogs were malnourished and had horrible skin conditions.

The owners of the shelter denied the animals suffered any abuse.

Some 300 dogs were seized by the Humane Society in the largest rescue operation in its history.

Some of the dogs were nursed back to health, and found loving homes. However, 10 still await adoption.

In total, 36 dogs from the rescue operation were up for adoption.

Dogs not adopted will remain at the Hawaiian Humane Society in Moilili as they await a new family to take them home.
