HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - April is Alcohol Responsibility Month, and Olympian Simone Biles teamed up with 21 attorneys general, including Hawaii's Doug Chin, to release public service announcements aimed at preventing underage drinking.
In The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility's PSA released Monday, Chin and Biles encourage parents to have conversations with their kids about saying "no" to underage drinking.
"As a prosecutor, I've seen firsthand the dangers of underage drinking," Chin said in a statement. "It's important to have good conversations with teens and children about these dangers."
Studies show talking to children about underage drinking has been effective. Between 2003 to 2016, conversations between kids and parents went up by 73 percent. During this same time period, underage drinking decreased by 50 percent.
