HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A man who died after breaching security at the Honolulu International Airport in February suffered complications of sudden cardiac arrest, the Medical Examiner’s Office said.

The incident happened on Feb. 18 at the airport’s commuter terminal, where Island Air and Mokulele Airlines operate. Officials said Charles Kosi Jr. forced his way through the exit lane of the security checkpoint and gained access to an area where ticketed passengers were waiting to board. The 48-year-old managed to make it outside before he was placed in custody.

Officials said after a struggle with officers, he became unresponsive. First responders performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation before transporting Kosi to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to autopsy results, Charles Kosi Jr. also had methamphetamine in his system at the time of his death.
