WAHIAWA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
A bicyclist was critically injured Sunday evening on the North Shore after colliding head-on with a pickup truck.
Police said just after 5 p.m., an unidentified man was riding his bike southbound on Kamehameha Highway by the Karsten Thot Bridge. For unknown reasons, the bicyclist crossed the center line and hit a Toyota pickup truck traveling northbound.
The bicyclist was ejected from his bike and sustained multiple injuries. The rider was not wearing a helmet. Authorities don't believe speed, alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 47-year-old Wahiawa man, was not injured.
Kamehameha Highway was closed for about an hour and half, from Kilani Avenue to Whitmore Avenue, as police investigated and cleared the scene.
