Hawaiian Word of the Day: Lunalilo

The Hawaiian word of the day is Lunalilo.,  William Charles Lunalilo, a cousin to the Kamehamehas won the first popular vote to elect the region of Hawaii.  According to the constitution, because Kamehameha the Fifth, Lot Kapuaiwa, died without naming a successor, the next king would be elected by the legislature.  Lunalilo won that election against David Kalakaua, but only reigned for about a year before his passing in 1874.

The Hawaiian word of the day is Lunalilo.
