Big Island police looking for 2 women connected with officer-involved shooting

PUNA, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Police on the Big Island are searching for two women wanted in connection with an officer-involved shooting that happened in the Puna District late Wednesday night. 

Jerrilyn Ann Rego and Larissa Naleikailima Padamada, both 26 years old, are the suspects tied to the incident that happened around 10 p.m.

Police said an officer initially responded to a request for assistance at a convenience store parking lot in Kurtistown. Upon arrival, the officer witnessed a vehicle hit a man.  

As the officer tried to help the man who had been struck. The vehicle then struck the officer’s vehicle before fleeing the scene.

The officer, in response to imminent danger, fired two shots toward the suspect's vehicle. The suspects continued heading south on Highway 11.

The vehicle was later located abandoned in the Glenwood area.

The victim was taken to the Hilo Medical Center, where he was treated for his injuries and later released.

Police have opened a second-degree assault investigation.
