An airsoft gun was confiscated on campus from a Kailua Intermediate School student on Tuesday, according to a letter from school administration sent home to parents on Wednesday.
Department of Education rules define the airsoft gun as a firearm, prohibited on all school campuses across Hawaii.
Principal Lisa DeLong says the weapon was unloaded at the time of its confiscation, and that no one was harmed in the incident.
School staff was notified and disciplinary action was taken with the student, DeLong added.
