A dangerous concrete block embedded in the sandy shoreline at Waimea Bay has been removed.
City crews on Thursday morning successfully used a heavy-duty excavator to drag the piece of concrete away from beachgoers. Work was completed at around 9:30 a.m.
The object, which broke away from an old structure nearby and washed down the Waimea Stream until it reached the bay, was too large to be taken away from the park today.
Crews will return in the coming days to break it apart before hauling it away.
