No doubt, doctors are among some of the highest paid and most educated professionals in the nation, but Hawaii ranks low on the list when it comes to the best places to practice medicine, a new report says.
According to research by the financial website WalletHub, Hawaii is the ninth worst state for being a doctor.
The report looked at 14 key metrics for all 50 states and Washington, D.C., including average annual wage of physicians, hospitals per capita and quality of the public hospital system.
Hawaii was ranked as having one of the lowest average annual wages in the nation. According to the latest survey by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, physicians and surgeons earn an average salary of approximately $219,000.
The top five state for doctors to practice was Iowa. The worst state was New York.
