4.4 magnitude earthquake rattles Big Island; no tsunami generated

A 4.4 magnitude earthquake rattled the Big Island on Thursday morning.

No tsunami was generated from the temblor, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.

The earthquake happened at 10:27 a.m. Its epicenter was about 9 miles south-southeast of Volcano at a depth of .5 kilometers.

Score of people across the Big island felt the earthquake, according to responses to the USGS "Did you feel it" survey.

The USGS said Kilauea's south flank has been the site 29 earthquakes with a magnitude 4.0 or greater during the past 25 years.
