A new classroom building that has been in the works for more than a decade finally opened on the Valley Isle. Teachers at Maui Waena Intermediate's overcrowded campus started moving in over the weekend. Problems with a contractor and other setbacks led to lengthy delays.
The air conditioned facility features nine classrooms. The technology club started transferring equipment into the new building.
"We now have storage, we have space for the 120+ people that we have in our after-school program," said media and technology teacher Jennifer Suzuki. "All of the other classes, the science and math classes that are moving into this building, are going to have brand new facilities."
The teachers will continue moving in during Spring Break. The students will return to campus on March 28.
