Public access to a Maui beach was temporarily restricted Saturday after Maui police received a call about an unexploded ordnance.
Just before 11:30 a.m., Maui police got a call that an old rusted ordnance was found lodged between rocks at Makena beach. The Department of Land and Natural Resources says it was found about 150-200 yards north of an area known as "five graves."
The Explosive Ordnance Division was called out to investigate. DLNR is monitoring the area until EOD officials can respond. It is unclear if or when it will be removed.
Access to the beach was still partially restricted as of 2 p.m. Saturday.
