PUNA, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Police on Hawaii Island say three people have been charged in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a woman and her three children.

Authorities allege 30-year-old Israel Allen Chapman, a Mountain View resident, held his estranged girlfriend and their three children against their will in a shed at a Puna home for several days before they were able to escape.

After making their way to a neighbor's home, medics were summoned and the four victims were transported to the Hilo Medical Center. They were treated for minor injuries and released.

Chapman was charged on Thursday with four counts of kidnapping, along with various other crimes, including felony abuse of a family member.

Two other individuals -- Chevy Iaukea and Joseph Soares, both 29 -- also face kidnapping charges in the incident, though police did not detail their involvement.

All three suspects were being held at the Hilo cellblock, pending a court appearance on Friday afternoon.
