(CNN) - A pastor in Sierra Leone made quite the discovery this week.

Pastor Emmanuel Momoh unearthed a diamond with a weight of 706 carats.

He found the massive gem in the Kono district of Sierra Leone and then handed it over to President Ernest Bai Koroma, who was grateful it was not smuggled out of the country.

It's not the largest diamond ever found, but it's close.

Last year, an uncut 1,109-carat diamond was auctioned in London.
