MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Hyundai Motor America is recalling nearly one million Sonatas after an issue could cause the seat belts to become detached, according to safety reports.

According to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report, the recall includes the Sonata midsize sedans from model years 2011 through 2014 as well as the Sonata hybrid from model years 2011 through 2015.

The recall report says the issue affects the seat belt anchor and its pretensioner, which fastens the belt to the vehicle's inner sill structure. During the assembly of the vehicle, if the connector doesn’t fully latch when pressed to the connector, the seat belt can detach.

Hyundai is aware of one minor injury related to this recall, the report says.

Hyundai said it would notify people who own affected vehicles via first-class mail.

Robert Burns with Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama confirms the Sonata midsize sedans mentioned in the recall were built at the Alabama plant.
