    State health department officials are cautioning swimmers to stay out of waters near Kona Coast Beach Park on Tuesday after high levels of a dangerous bacteria were detected during a recent test.

    State health department officials are cautioning swimmers to stay out of waters near Kona Coast Beach Park on Tuesday after high levels of a dangerous bacteria were detected during a recent test.

WAILUA, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The Health department posted an alert for waters off Lydgate Park in Wailua.

Elevated levels of enterococci bacteria, a bacteria commonly associated with heavy rains and runoff, were found at the beach. 

The public is urged to avoid swimming in the area. The bacteria can lead to urinary tract and wound infections. 

Health officials will continue to monitor the waters.
