Ma'alo Road in Kapaia has reopened following an accident involving a tractor-trailer landing on its side, Thursday.

The accident happened near the Kuhio Highway junction around 9:40 a.m.

Kauai police say a tractor-trailer was heading south when it crossed the center line and struck an unattended vehicle that was parked on the northbound shoulder. The semi truck ended up on its side and the unattended vehicle ended up in a ravine.

The 57-year-old male driver was temporarily trapped inside the truck. Crews eventually got him out and he was taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The road reopened around 3 p.m.
