Police-involved shooting reported in Wailuku

Authorities on Maui are investigating a police-involved shooting in the Wailuku area.

On Monday afternoon, according to the Maui Police Department, officers responded to reports that a stolen vehicle had been seen at the McDonald's on Main Street. A confrontation occurred, and the driver of the vehicle that was reported stolen fled the scene.

As the vehicle was fleeing, at least one officer discharged his firearm. None of the responding police officers were reported injured during the incident, and the condition of the driver is unknown.

Police are still conducting an investigation at the scene of the altercation.

The stolen vehicle is described as a four-door Hyundai Elantra, brown in color, with the license plate LEK-707. Police caution that the driver is considered dangerous and request that anyone who may have spotted the car to call 911.
