Local Connection: Police Chief's decision

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Honolulu police Chief Louis Kealoha’s decision to take leave with pay from his position was the right thing to do.

Now that there is no question he could be charged with federal felonies in the ongoing corruption investigation against him and his wife. Now the Police Commission needs to be in a position to have a clean slate to be able to think about the kind of leadership that can take the department into the future. And the chances of Chief Louis Kealoha returning are really not probable given that fighting the likely charges could take months or years and that would truly be a disservice to the department and the public.

So after two years of turmoil, things need to settle so the brave men and women of the Honolulu Police Department can continue to serve and protect with honor and focus on their essential role in our community.
