President Obama golfs, dines at high-end Vintage Cave restaurant

LANIKAI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - President Obama played a round of golf with close friends at Oahu's Mid Pacific Country Club Monday.

It took about five hours for the president to play all 18 holes. He teed off with friends Bobby Titcomb, Greg Orme and Joe Paulsen.

A small group of onlookers gathered at the country club to catch a glimpse of the president as he finished his game. He then headed back to his vacation home in Kailua.

This course is an annual stop for Obama on his vacations to the islands. An impressive 40-foot putt on the 18th green in 2015 drew cheers from the crowd of onlookers that gathered outside the course.

The Lanikai Pillboxes hiking trail was closed as President Obama golfed.

Later that night, the president took his wife, Michelle, to the high-end Vintage Cave restaurant at Ala Moana Center. The two dined with family and chose a $295 tasting menu.

The president and the first lady ate at the same restaurant on New Year's Day a year ago.

President Obama also continues to be briefed as warranted by his national security team on the assassination of the Russian ambassador to Turkey, the Associated Press reports.
