Hawaii Island police are warning the public about a new phone scam involving a resort.
Police said scammers will call residents, claiming they are awards members of a resort and have won either free accommodations or a discounted vacation package. At the end of the phone call, the scammer asks for the victim’s credit card number.
The caller ID shows up as a local phone number, but detectives said the scammers are using apps that alter their true phone numbers.
Police said if anyone receives a call like this to not give out personal information.
