HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

In the Summer of 2015, Zippy's decided to take on their inaugural internship class. Now on their fourth class, students from public high schools around the state are chosen and experience real work experiences at various local Zippy’s locations. The program lasts anywhere from two and a half months to three months, and if completed, each student receives $250 at graduation.

Of the 63 high school students that have gone through the program, 44 have become regular employees after their internships were complete

The internship teaches students life lessons, something very important to learn as young minds develop. During this time, they learn valuable lessons such as interviewing skills, interpersonal skills and money and time management.

Many employees are “lifers,” spending decades with Zippy’s and becoming familiar faces to loyal customers. Zippy's is serious about employee growth and development and strive to be a good first employer, a long-term career opportunity for many and a launching pad for careers.

Zippy’s has been fortunate enough to serve Hawaii for 50 years, holding special memories for many adults who remember eating with their parents or grandparents and now take their own children to the restaurants today. It’s quality comfort food in a uniquely local environment that makes Zippy’s Hawaii’s favorite restaurant. Employees know they are perpetuating a long-standing tradition for many local families, who often make Zippy’s their first stop after being away from the Islands.
