On November 2nd, the Armed Services YMCA will Celebrate the Military Family in honor of Military Family Month. Please join me in observing Military Family Month and let's demonstrate our nation's support and commitment to the families of military personnel. With service members continuing to be deployed overseas, recognizing the routine sacrifices made by military families has never been more important.
As a private non-profit organization serving Hawaii's military community since 1917, Armed Services YMCA has touched more military lives than any other organization in Hawaii. This year, the Armed Services YMCA's care of military families during the December 7th attack and afterwards, is especially noteworthy given the 75th Commemoration activities. Each weekend during WWII more than 4000 servicemen passed through the doors of the Army Navy YMCA, as it was called at the time.
As it did in 1941, the Armed Services YMCA continues to provide programs that help meet the challenges associated with military life. While the programs offered by the Armed Services YMCA have evolved, the core mission remains the same – to make military life easier by enhancing the lives of military members and their families through programs that are relevant to the unique challenges of military life.
