KAHULUI, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Two people are dead after a major crash in Kahului that tied up traffic Saturday afternoon.

Maui police have identified the victims as Joshua Apo, 29, of Wailuku and Melissa Egbert, 33, of Lahaina.

The emergency call came in at around 4 p.m.

Officers closed Kuihelani Highway in both directions between Honoapiilani Highway and Puunene Avenue for nearly four hours.

Investigators said Apo was driving a silver Nissan sedan and was heading the wrong way on Kuihelani and collided head-on with a Scion sedan driven by Egbert. A third vehicle then collided with the Scion.

Apo and Egbert both died at Maui Memorial Medical Center.

Two other people in the third vehicle were treated for minor injuries.

Police are still investigating whether speed, drugs, or alcohol were involved.
