Wet and windy weather is in the forecast for Sunday. An upper level disturbance is dropping in over the islands, and that will enhance showers, especially for windward areas, through Sunday night. Some of those showers will be pushed leeward by the gusty trades, and there's a chance of heavier showers for leeward and interior sections of the Big Island. Drier weather should return by Monday afternoon in time for Halloween trick-or-treating, but the trade winds will remain rather gusty before backing down a little for the latter half of next week.
A High Surf Advisory is in effect for east-facing shores through 6 p.m. Sunday for a rough and choppy trade wind swell with waves of 6 to 8 feet. There's also a Small Craft Advisory for all Hawaiian coastal waters through 6 p.m. Monday because of elevated seas and strong trade winds.
