HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

808 Cleanups is a group that travels across the island to restore our environment by getting rid of tons of trash they find on our beaches and in our streams. Their mission is to respond to environmental threats, restore ecosystems, support decentralized community-based cleanups, build sustainable solutions, and empower volunteers.

Among their cleanups, volunteers find and collect trash and debris such as  rusty nails, sharp, broken glass, ugly graffiti defacing our natural and historic sites, GHOST nets, plastics outnumbering fish, as well as fishing lines that damage our marine environment and injure marine life.

808 Cleanups will be holding events at Mokule'ia & Graffiti Pilates (this weekend) and the Makai Research Pier & Waialae Beach Park (next weekend).
