Master storyteller Lopaka Kapanui has been sharing spooky stories before Halloween. This story is one that involves Kapanui himself.
It's a ghost tour for couple only, the weekend before valentines, and for some reason they only want to hear stories about double murder suicides, couples who've killed each other. As the stories are going on, the men become upset because now they realize majority of the stories about double murder suicides are about women who take their revenge on cheating men. The men demand that a Hawaiian prayer be made. Just in case.
We go to the burial mound at Iolani Palace. I perform the chant, and as I'm turning around to leave, someone takes a picture. In the picture you can see a male figure. You can see through the hand. You can see through the legs. You can see some unusual, ectoplasmic thing in the photograph, but the one thing you can't see are the head and the shoulders. They're completely gone.
That's me in the photograph.
I submitted it to the Department of Psychic Research at John F. Kennedy Univerity to a parapsychologist . Emails me back and says, "You can't rule out the psychic, but I know a thing or two about the palace, that's the burial mound. Don't you Hawaiians have something called 'mana,' spiritual power?"
I said, "Of course we do."
He said, "It could also be that there might have been and opening that night between the world of the living and the world of the dead and perhaps you were halfway into the veil."
