NUUANU, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A 72-year-old man is in serious condition after an early-morning fire erupted at a condominium complex in Nuuanu on Thursday, also forcing all residents to evacuate.

Nearly 40 Honolulu firefighters responded around 2:25 a.m. to the fire at the Queen Emma Gardens complex on Nuuanu Avenue. The fire broke out from a seventh-floor unit, HFD said.

HFD located the 72-year-old man in the unit where the fire started. EMS treated him for apparent smoke inhalation and transported him to a nearby hospital.

The fire was fully extinguished by 3:05 a.m., and all residents were allowed to return to the building just before 4 a.m.

HFD is still investigating the cause as well as damage estimates.
