Local illustrator joins the adult coloring book craze with a book that celebrates and highlights Hawai‘i’s visual wonders

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Adult coloring books are on the rise and Hawai‘i offers more than its share of visual inspiration. From the flora and fauna found in our backyards and neighborhoods, gracing our roadways and filling our lush rainforests with twisting ferns and blooming floras, to the vast array of colorful animals in the sea, in the air, and on land, Hawai‘i is an artist’s dream.

Local illustrator Kelly Monis deftly taps into our island palette to create intricately detailed drawings sure to inspire and awaken the artist in all of us.

Growing up in Honolulu, Kelly could always be found with a book in hand. When she wasn’t reading, she immersed herself in drawing and painting, eventually completing the Fine Arts program at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa. Working as a bookseller at Barnes and Noble for nearly a decade, her favorite part has always been seeing new titles come in, and she is thrilled to be able to share her first book with you.

Visitors will find Coloring Hawai‘i to be the perfect memento of their island journey which they can infuse with their own colorful interpretation of their time spent here as they color in the pueo, honu, and torch gingers gracing the pages. Locals will love adding this title to their coloring book library as a point of pride as they color intricate tapa-like designs various culturally significant animals such as he‘e, humuhumunukunukuapua‘a, and ‘io, and iconic flowers and plants.
