Business Report: Health care premiums increase

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Obamacare costs aren't doubling nationwide, as has been said on the campaign trail. But in most places they are up.

Obamacare insures millions, formerly uninsured. Premiums are rising. HHS estimates a national average increase of 25 percent. Most won't pay so much because they qualify for subsidies. Earlier, the Kaiser Foundation said premiums will double in Arizona, rising 7% in California, but will actually fall in Cleveland and Indianapolis.

The U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals upholds a Marine Fisheries Service move, putting the bearded seal on the threatened species list. The significance of the decision lies in the fact that reason it's threatened is climate change – the court said, there's no requirement that underlying research be ironclad and absolute.

The Federal Communications Commission proposes to crack down on "most favored nation" deals with cable content providers. Some companies that own lots of popular channels seek contracts with cable systems that give them preference over competitors.
