HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - While the Rainbow Warrior football team awaits kick-off in Colorado Springs, the U.H. men's basketball team spent Thursday night celebrating the tip-off of its own season -- and raising funds to help maintain last year's success.
At least 450 people attended the banquet, held inside the Stan Sheriff Center, which was staged to help offset the costs of the 'Bows nutritional needs.
Coach Eran Ganot says the fundraiser, which also included a silent auction, exceeded expectations.
"I mean, I can't tell you how happy I am right now, a lot of smiles for me and my program," said Ganot. "There's so much we talk about with our program... I mean, look behind me. 450 people here in year one. We couldn't have fed any more people. It's great for our players to see that, feel that, we have a tremendous support system here and it couldn't have been more evident than today."
Hawaii's season begins three weeks from Friday, against SIU Edwardsville.
