PEARL CITY, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Dignitaries dug in with o'o sticks Thursday to launch another phase of rail construction off Kamehameha highway.
The groundbreaking marked the start of construction for the Pearl Highlands, Pearlridge and Aloha Stadium rail stops.
Mayor Kirk Caldwell addressed concerns about funding the entire rail route.
"It's worth the fight," Caldwell said. "It's worth talking about where we're going to get the funding from. It does not help to complain and blame."
Cutting rail stops is among the options being considered to cut costs.
The first 10 miles of guideway have already been built for the $8.6 billion project and needs about $2 billion more to completely finish the original plan.
