An anonymous tip led Hawaii County police to the discovery of a body in Kailua-Kona on Tuesday.
Sources say the victim had been shot in the torso area.
Police found the body of Alanaokala Solomon Covington, 36, of Kona, off Hawaii Belt Road north of the 27-mile marker.
The body was buried in a lava field, police said.
After discovering the body Tuesday afternoon, police secured the site overnight and recovered it Wednesday. An autopsy is to be conducted Friday.
