WAIKOLOA, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) -
Rescue crews suspended their search for a missing boater near Lapakahi State Park on the Big Island.
The U.S. Coast Guard said 26-year-old Charles Locklar was last seen on Saturday swimming toward shore with his uncle when high winds capsized their 10-foot skiff about a half mile offshore. The uncle made it to shore, and called authorities around 7:45 p.m. when he could not find his nephew.
Both the Coast Guard and Big Island firefighters have been searching for Locklar since Saturday night.
When Locklar went missing, the area was reporting 27 mph winds and 6-foot waves.
Crews searched a total area of more than 2,878 square miles.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Coast Guard at (808) 842-2600.
