HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The No. 17 University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team (12-5, 5-1 Big West) returns home to host their Homecoming matches this week against UC Irvine (7-13, 2-4 BWC) on Friday, Oct. 14 and UC Davis (9-9, 2-3 BWC) on Sunday Oct. 16.  Start times are at 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. respectively with both matches to be played at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The Rainbow Wahine are looking to rebound after falling in a five-set heartbreaker at Long Beach State this past Saturday. With the loss, Hawai'i dropped five spots in the AVCA poll to No. 17. Nikki Taylor led Hawai'i against the 49ers, recording her fifth double-double of the season with a match-high 28 kills and 19 digs.  She also added six blocks and a service ace in the match. Both Annie Mitchem and McKenna Granato added 10 kills apiece. Mitchem notched a career-high with seven blocks while Granato recorded a career-high 17 digs.

Overall, Taylor continues to lead the conference with 4.98 kills per set, 6.27 points per set, 30 service aces, 0.63 aces per set, and 11.42 attacks per set. Nationally, she is ranked No. 3 in aces per set; No. 4 in points per set; and No. 5 in kills per set. Overall, Taylor leads UH with 239 total kills and is second on the team with 61 blocks. This past week, she moved into 14th place alone on UH's career-kill record list with 1,230 kills to pass Jessica Sudduth. Taylor now needs just two kills to tie Karrie Trischman at No. 13 with 1,232 career kills.

Middle hitter Emily Maglio leads the Big West in both total blocks (80)  and blocks per set (1.33). Maglio leads the team and is third in the league with a .374 hitting percentage. She is also third on the team with 143 kills (2.38 p/s) and already has a career-high 32 digs.

Norene Iosia has started 14 matches at setter and leads UH with 579 assists and is second on the squad and in the Big West with 0.43 aces per set. She has tallied a team-high seven double-doubles—the most recent coming at Long Beach State this past Saturday with 4 assists and 13 digs. Iosia is second on the team with 142 digs and fourth on the team with 32 blocks.

Libero Savanah Kahakai has started all 17 matches and leads UH with 256 digs (4.20 per set). She has posted double-digit digs in 14 of 17 matches this season—including the last five straight. Kahakai has popped up 20-or more digs in five matches thus far this year.

Head coach Dave Shoji's current record is 1,191-203-1. He needs just nine wins to become just the second NCAA DI women's volleyball coach to record 1,200 wins. The only other coach to achieve this milestone is Penn State's Russ Rose who passed the 1,200 win mark early this season. Rose currently has a record of 1,203-189.
