After six years serving guests at The Modern Honolulu, a popular Japanese restaurant is relocating. But it won’t be going too far.

Morimoto Restaurant will serve its last meal at The Modern Honolulu hotel – on Ala Moana Boulevard -- on Dec. 8. Japanese Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto will instead open two new restaurants at the Pacific Beach Hotel -- on Kalakaua Avenue -- once renovations are complete. According to its website, the hotel will reopen as 'Alohilani Resort at Waikiki Beach in the fall of 2017.

The Modern Honolulu said a new restaurant will be opening in place of Morimoto. A press release said the team is “constantly looking at how they can evolve and reimagine the experience.”

The hotel has not announced the name of the new business yet.

Morimoto has been a longtime favorite of many patrons, including President Barack Obama and his family when they vacation in Hawaii.
