HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The Honolulu Orchid Society’s 77th Annual Orchid Show and Plant Sale is October 14-16 at Washington Middle School Cafeteria. Velvety petals, luxe colors and divine scents enrich your senses in displays of brilliant blooms. Trophies go to the best (with a special contest for Hawaii-bred hybrids), and treasure hunters can seek their heart’s desire in our Plant Sale, with seedlings, orchid flowers and other plants all grown in nurseries in Hawaii. Tools and supplies for keeping plants healthy and happy will also be available. You might even find a jewel orchid!

New to the show is a special Saturday presentation on Vandas by Sheldon Takasaki from Carmela Orchids, Hawaii island. He and other expert growers will share a wealth of experience with various orchids in free sessions each day of the show. Come learn orchid culture in air-conditioned comfort, and you may even hear tales of the grower’s newest coveted floral finds.

The 2016 show is open to the public, with free admission, at Washington Middle School on Friday, October 14 from  9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Saturday,  October 15th from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM and Sunday, October 16th 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM.

Molokai Sweetbread will be offered with all proceeds going to the Washington Middle School Special Olympics. The Honolulu Orchid Society also provides an annual donation to Washington School.
