Hawaii Lions and youth Leo Club volunteers rallied at the state capitol Saturday morning to collect canned goods for the Hawaii Foodbank.
Event organizers say canned goods are a Foodbank necessity that helps to supply Hawaii Foodbank food pantries like homeless and abuse shelters and soup kitchens.
“One of the challenges that Lions Club International has for all of the Lions throughout the world is to defeat hunger,” said Nadine Nishioka of the Manoa Lions Club. “And so today that’s what we’re trying to do, we’re trying to defeat hunger in Hawaii.”
Last year the Hawaii Foodbank distributed over 13 million pounds of food to those in need.
