Forecast: Steady trades to hold through the weekend

Drier conditions are taking over, and just a few overnight windward showers are expected for the next several days.

Steady tradewinds will hold through the weekend, picking up on Monday.

Surf is coming up out in the country this weekend. Forerunners will start arriving late Friday. By Saturday an advisory is likely, which would mean north shore waves of 15 feet or larger. A reinforcing swell is forecast for Sunday night, so elevated surf is expected into the first of next week.

And here's Friday's surf forecast: 3-5 feet east, 2-4 feet south, 1-3 feet north, 2-4 feet west.

A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for Maalaea Bay, the Pailolo and Alenuihaha channels, and coastal waters south and west of the Big Island.
