Honolulu (HawaiiNewsNow) - The state is teaming up with the Honolulu Community Action Program and Aloha United Way to start an initiative to help people from getting evicted and getting recently homeless people back in a home.
As part of Gov. David Ige's homeless initiative, the Hale Kakou Rent, Deposit, and Utility Assistance Program will offer rent assistance, security deposits and "companion" utility payments to eligible people.
The program aims to help homeless that are ready to move into a home with a source of income and people who are at risk of becoming homeless by eviction.
