PUNA, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii County Civil Defense is monitoring another steam release that happened early Monday at the Puna Geothermal Venture.
Civil Defense said it happened around 2:30 a.m. However, the situation has been contained and secure.
There's no threat to the public and no evacuations are necessary.
Fire crews were on scene.
Last week, there was a steam release, which caused the plant to go offline. Tests all came back negative for hydrogen sulfide, a toxic gas with a rotten egg odor. Uncontrolled releases of the gas at the plant have prompted public safety alerts in the past.
