Hawaiian Electric Companies are now using drones to help improve customer service.
The company launched the aircrafts on Thursday as part of a partnership with the Navy's Unmanned Aircraft Systems program.
The hope is to use the drones so crews can access remote problem areas after storms or disasters faster.
"There is also a very important safety element. We no longer have to have a helicopter sitting on the edge, ten feet away, 200 feet up on a transmision structure," said Colton Ching, Vice President of HECO Energy Delivery.
And, HECO says it will reduce their carbon footprint while keeping the cost of repairs down.
The company's drone will operate under FAA drone laws, and operators will undergo safety and training procedures.
