Collegiate Baseball Newspaper has ranked the 2016 University of Hawai'i recruiting class as the 37th-best class in the nation, according to the annual evaluation of NCAA Division I Baseball Recruiting Classes. UH's class was rated third among Big West Conference members and 11th among teams in the west region, garnering their highest ranking in eight seasons.

The Rainbow Warriors welcome a 20-member class to the roster in Manoa this fall, consisting of Jedd Andrade (Waipahu, O'ahu), Chris Apecechea (San Jose, Calif.), Colin Ashworth (Placentia, Calif.), Alex Baeza (Salt Lake City, Utah), Daylen Calicdan (Hilo, Hawai'i), Zack Chan (Manhattan Beach, Calif.), Dustin Demeter (Santa Barbara, Calif.), Dominic DeMiero (Brier, Wash.), Matt Estes (Napa, Calif.), Adam Fogel (Palos Verdes, Calif.), Brody Hagel-Pitt (Denver, Colo.), Jordan LaFave (Kirkland, Wash.), Carter Loewen (Abbotsford, British Columbia), Logan Pouelsen (Huntington Beach, Calif.), Jackson Rees (Aliso Viejo, Calif.), Matt Richardson (Lodi, Calif.), Jacob Sniffen (San Diego, Calif.), Neil Uskali (Thousand Oaks, Calif.), Dylan Vchulek (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) and Maaki Yamazaki (Tokyo, Japan).

"To see our recruiting class recognized in Collegiate Baseball's Top 40 is a nice way to start the fall. We thought it was our best class in several years — a physical and athletic group," 16th-year head coach Mike Trapasso said. "I'm also happy for Rusty McNamara and Carl Fraticelli for the work they put into this class."

Arizona State's class was listed atop the rankings. Mississippi, North Carolina, Arizona and Auburn rounded out the top five. Big West Conference teams UC Santa Barbara (9th) and Cal State Fullerton (21st) also appeared in the rankings.
The 2016 UH ranking is the highest from the publication for the Rainbow Warriors since CBN listed the 2008 recruiting class also at 37th.

The Rainbow Warriors officially opened fall practices on Tuesday afternoon with their first team practice of the year.
