HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The late Ernie Cruz, Jr.'s wife Kahelelani and son Kailoa have asked Hawaii News Now to share this message with all his beloved extended family and friends on behalf of their ohana:

The untimely passing of my husband, Ernie Cruz Jr., is a tragic loss for all of us, his family, friends, and fans of his music.  This has only been made more difficult with the passing of his brother, Guy, only a few days later.  I want to extend a sincere mahalo for the heartfelt condolences I’ve received through text, email, and through our network of friends.  Kailoa and I, along with the rest of the family, appreciate your kind thoughts and prayers during this time. Regarding Ernie, I know many of you have been asking what you can do to kokua or help during this time of sorrow. We thank you all for allowing us this time and space to process what just happened and mourn the loss of Ernie and Guy.  Per Ernie's request, there will be no public funeral. As Ernie wrote, "the way I see it we're all together whenever we want".

Sincerely,

Kahelelani & Kailoa

Well-known local musician Cruz Jr. died last Tuesday after getting into trouble in the water off Sandy Beach. He was 56.
